  • 14:00-17:00h

This year the 2026-edition of the annual TESC Symposium takes place!

An event filled with project presentations from TESC members, Measurement Is The New Black members and keynote speaker Rogier Kievit

Day: February 23rd
Time: 14:00h -17:00 followed by some drinks on campus
Location: Tilburg University (and online)

We are excited to welcome Rogier Kievit as the Keynote Speaker of the day with his presentation entitled:
Cognitive performance in the wild: Understanding cognitive fluctuations in real life
Cognitive ability develops across the lifespan, improving during childhood and declining in old age. However, this seemingly smooth developmental curve obscures the insights that can be gained by zooming in on how our cognitive performance varies across seconds, sessions, days and even seasons. In this talk I will show how we can leverage modern experience sampling methodology to measure and model the internal (e.g. mood, fatigue, strategy) and external (e.g. noise, temperature) impacts on short term cognitive fluctuations. I will discuss both the positive (flexibility, exploration, resource allocation) and negative (inattentiveness, fatigue, distraction) sides of fluctuations, and how we may optimize learning environments such as classrooms to do better for developing children.

Presentation overview:

  • Ivan Nyklicek (MCP) – Daily mood during Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program: role of momentary awareness and (ruminative) thinking.
  • Malin Müller (Landau) – Triangulating Inattentive Responding: Using Response Processes as a Qualitative Lens on Quantitative Detection Methods.
  • Dominique Maciejewski (MITNB, DP) – Measurement is the New Black” Consortium – an initiative to improve the measurement of intensive longitudinal data.
  • Lisa Peeters (MITNB, KU Leuven) – Person-specific and item-specific reliability of personality scales.
  • Niels Vanhasbroek (MITNB, UvA, KU Leuven) – Continuity revisited: Does sampling rate influence temporal dependence?
  • Leonie Schorrlepp (MITNB, DP) – When “right now” is the length of a flash talk.
  • Leonie Vogelsmeier (MITNB, MTO) – How timescales shape psychological dynamics.
  • Rogier Kievit (Radboud University, Donders Institute) – Cognitive performance in the wild: Understanding cognitive fluctuations in real life.
