We are happy to announce Marie Stadel (Methodology and Statistics) will present at this TESC colloquium:
“Beyond Mood Tracking: Mapping Social Life with ESM and Social Network Methods“
Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM) is increasingly used in mental healthcare research and practice. However, clinical ESM applications often focus primarily on patients’ moods, thoughts, and feelings, while paying less attention to an equally important aspect of mental health: people’s social context and daily social functioning. Social context can both support and undermine wellbeing. Supportive relationships may buffer against psychopathology and aid recovery, whereas negative interactions or social isolation can worsen mental health outcomes. Understanding a person’s social environment is therefore essential for both clinical research and mental healthcare practice.
In this talk, I will present how to combine ESM with personal social network methods to capture detailed information about individuals’ daily social interactions and their relationships with interaction partners. I will also present a series of studies in which we developed and evaluated this combined approach as an intervention tool in mental healthcare.
