On July first, Joran Jongerling has passed on the baton to Leonie Vogelsmeier, the former TESC ambassador representing the Methods and Statistics department. Leonie will be the new co-director of TESC and Joran will take over the role as ambassador. Eeske van Roekel and Leonie Vogelsmeier are now the co-directors of TESC.
Leonie is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Methodology and Statistics at Tilburg University, where she obtained her PhD in 2022. She develops new methodology to address the urgent need for a strong measurement foundation in the field of intensive longitudinal data (e.g., detecting changes in response behavior such as item interpretation or response styles using mixture models; accounting for non-invariance in vector autoregressive models; developing personalized experience sampling designs to reduce participant burden). As a psychologist and psychometrician, her goal is to make this methodology accessible, understandable, and useful for researchers facing challenges with collecting and analyzing intensive longitudinal data.
As I take on the role of director of TESC from July 1, I would like to further strengthen TESC as a platform for knowledge dissemination, collaboration, and visibility within the community.
As a concrete first step, we have already started brainstorming about the development of a summer or winter school on experience sampling methods, which could help us share expertise more broadly and connect researchers, clinicians, and other interested professionals around this topic, both within TESC and beyond.
I also see opportunities to involve younger scholars, especially PhD candidates, more actively in TESC activities and collaborations. For example, when researchers are looking for data, methodological expertise, or collaborators, we could first consider whether there are early-career scholars who would be interested in contributing, provided this is agreed upon with their supervisors.
Finally, I would like to improve TESC’s online visibility, particularly through social media, by sharing research, events, collaborations, and achievements more actively.
